About this demo

The tree on the left shows how Surftree™ 1.1. is capable of supporting over 65,000 nodes. Furthermore, each node can have up to 4 URLs allowing one Surftree™ to connect a web user to over 260,000 web pages.

The 65,534 nodes on the tree on the left are all of the dates from January 1, 1900, to March 12, 2073.

You can open a folder by clicking on a "+" box or the text next to it. By clicking on successive folders for a century, decade, year, and month, you will get to the dates in that month. When you click on a date, you can see the day of the week corresponding to this date.

Because Surftree™ can index up to four independent URLs for every node, it is possible to expand this demo to also inform you of the the phase of the moon, the sign of the zodiac, and when sunrise and sunset occurred (at a particular place) on any particular day -- or any other four independent facts.

The Java 1.0+ version of this demo requires a download of 1.34 MB, which equates to about 20 bytes/node. The Java 1.1+ version supports data-compressed CSV files. This reduces the total download (and increases the speed) by about 5x -- making the total download about 259KB for the 65,534 node tree data.
